In February, itll be time for designer Alexander Lervik's 18 light objects to illuminate the Green- house at the Stockhotm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair. Fifteen of the 18 objects are recent de- signs, having been produced for the Enlightenment exhibition shown at the Rohsska design museum in Gothenburg last year. Now, visitors to the Fair will have an opportunity of checking out the exhi- bition about which so much has been written.

“Last year | spent three months travelling round Asia and got lots of ideas there. The new diode technique enables us to take a whole new approach to light,” says Alexander of all his fan- tastic lamps and light objects.

Many of Alexander’s creations contain some almost surrealistic surprises. Inside the fluorescent tube of his “Ballet Lamp”, for example, is a tiny dan- cer who performs pirouettes when the lamp is lit. The "My Brain” lamp is a replica of a 3D MR scan of Alexander's own brain, while the “Face” wall lamp is an illuminated face that seems to be coming out of the wall but is actually set into the wall. Perhaps the most sophisticated of Alexander's light objects is “Rainbow”, in which 300 interconnected diodes

are capable of producing images or patterns on the shade. Naturally, some of Lervik's more established products, such as ”Brighthandle”, a luminous door handle that shines red when locked and green when unlocked, his “Sense” light swing and the aptly na- med “Light Tree” will also be on show.

“We'd really been hunting around for a good light exhibition, so it's great to be able to exhibit Alexander's fantastic creations,” says Charlotte Wiking, event mana- ger of the Stockholm Fumiture Fair.

Alexander Lervik is a product designer and in- terior decorator and is the man behind several well- known shops and night clubs. His latest interior design brief is for a nightclub on Kungsportsavenyn in Gothenburg. Other examples include Sturecompag- niet, White Room, V nightclub, NK Dam- och Herrskor in Stockholm and the Rizzo chain of shops that can be found all over Sweden. Alexander Lervik designs fumiture for Skandiform and Johanson Design, and some of his biggest customers are companies in the USA, Japan, ltaly and Scandinavia.

The Enlightenment show will be placed right in the centre of the Greenhouse. The exhibition setting will be designed by TAF architects Gabriella Gustafson and Mattias Ståhlbom.
