The question first, then the form: this is the thread running through Lervik’s approach. Rather than beginning with a shape, a project often starts with an idea or an experience he wants to create. Function, material, technology and narrative become ways of making that idea physical. The studio interview follows this curiosity across his work.

Collaborations give those questions different settings. For Johanson Design, Friends is a modular sofa system with a strong graphic profile. For Skargaarden, Arholma extends from dining and lounge chairs to tables, a sofa and a sun lounger. Its aluminium frame and outdoor textiles connect a restrained expression with the practical demands of outdoor life.

The 44 Easy Chair, designed for Daredutch in 2005, uses an advanced moulding technique for its seat and backrest. Drawing on furniture of the 1950s, it shows how a familiar lounge chair can be reconsidered through construction. These producer collaborations sit alongside works made for galleries rather than a conventional product range.

Also created in 2005, Red Chair reduces a chair to seven lacquered steel rods. First shown in Five Playful Chairs, it was made in an edition of ten. The studio’s museum records list Red Chair at Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and Nasjonalmuseet in Oslo, and Chair 44 at Möbeldesignmuseum / Museum of Furniture Studies in Älmhult. Industrial furniture and experimental pieces are not separate practices here. The discipline of production informs the gallery work, while artistic exploration feeds new ideas into commercial projects.
