An English classic, redrawn for a Scandinavian interior.
Mr Jones began with the traditional Howard sofa, one of the most enduring forms in upholstered furniture, celebrated for its generous comfort and unmistakably English character.
Alexander Lervik’s ambition was to retain what made the archetype so appealing while removing its historical heaviness and translating it into a cleaner, more contemporary Scandinavian language.
The goal was uncompromising: exceptional comfort.
Together with ADEA, the sofa was refined down to the smallest details, from proportions and upholstery to the subtle construction decisions that determine how a sofa actually feels after hours of use.
The name carries a personal reference too. Mr Jones is a nod to Lervik’s teenage idol, musician Howard Jones, creating a playful connection between the Howard sofa and the man behind the name.
The result became a major success and received several awards, including Furniture of the Year at the ELLE Decoration Swedish Design Awards 2017.
Mr Jones is rooted in tradition without ever feeling nostalgic. It shows how a familiar typology can be renewed when comfort, proportion and detail are reconsidered from the ground up.
