Designer and inventor Alexander Lervik has, together with the company Aritco, developed a custom-designed elevator for private homes. Now they want to try to sell the model for around a quarter of a million kronor per elevator.
Aritco, which was a Gasell company in 2003–2005, sells elevators for both the commercial and private markets. In recent years, demand for the company's home elevators has increased.
"The elevators are sold primarily for future-proofing, so people can remain living in their home without difficulty, and to 35–45-year-olds who are building new homes. The architect then often suggests incorporating an elevator," says John Löwbäck, CEO of Aritco.
Now the company hopes there will be demand for a more exclusive designer elevator.
During Stockholm Design Week 2016, the company showcased an elevator at the NK department store in Stockholm. Alexander Lervik, interior architect and product designer, is behind the design. He has developed a series of models for private homes.
"It was a major challenge. I had never designed elevators before and suddenly there were many legal requirements to adhere to. But the biggest challenge was the sales aspect. Making an elevator that architects and end customers want," says Alexander Lervik.
A designer elevator can cost 200,000 kronor plus an installation for 30,000 kronor.
"Small money when you are building a house. Many people probably think it costs a million. It is the first elevator for a normal family," says John Löwbäck.
Aritco Lift was founded in 1995 and has its headquarters, development, and production in Kungsängen outside Stockholm. Last year, sales increased by just over 17 percent to SEK 375 million.
