INFLUENCE From the performance work The hero, 2001. eVa Magnuszewska, editor at Plaza Interiör, checks out the news that influences and inspires.

ART

That there is a shortage of attractive exercise equipment is something that designer Alexander Lervik, founder of the design brand Tingest, has seized upon. During the Formex fair in January, he presented a stylish collection of dumbbells (in marble!), kettlebells, massage rollers, and hula hoops that one does not have to hide in the closet.

Miró’s poetic painting

ART

Marina at Moderna marina abramović is called the superstar of the art world and has been named one of the world's most influential people by Time Magazine. For the first time in Sweden, her performance art is shown in a major retrospective at Moderna Museet.

In 2010 Marina Abramović sat on a chair for 736 hours without moving at the museum MoMA in New York. Around 750,000 people queued to silently sit across from her for a brief moment. Some were celebrities: Lady Gaga, James Franco, and Jay Z among others. Marina Abramović's self-exposing – often self-tormenting – artistic acts have earned her the epithet "the mother of performance art". Since the early 70s, she has developed and made performance visible also to a wider audience, and her works raise questions about power and hierarchy without becoming explicitly political. They sometimes require us to let go of our perception of time or the idea of an independent self. Yet the individual experience and personal responsibility are entirely central to her performance. The questions she asks about our existence provoke and move us. In the exhibition The cleaner at Moderna Museet in Stockholm, material from the very earliest years up to the present day is shown: moving images, photography, paintings, objects, installations, and quite a lot else from Marina's own archive. The exhibition is produced in close collaboration with the artist and is her first significant retrospective in Europe.

Now at Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde: a major exhibition with works by the Spanish surrealist Joan Miró (1893–1983). On display here are poetic paintings, sculptures, drawings, and textile works by one of the 20th century's most acclaimed artists. He was inspired by everyday objects and had a strong social commitment that found expression in his art.

PLAYLIST OF THE MONTH

That is when the exhibition Natura Dentata opens at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in Stockholm. Here, art and fashion meet in a dark embrace. Among the works shown are hand-sewn garments and films touching on the cessation of life. Heavy, but oh, so beautiful.

1. The XX, I see you.

Five years have passed since the latest record, and when the super-acclaimed trio The Xx now releases a new album, they return with more influences and a bigger hit factor. 2. erIk LundIn, VäL kommen hem.

Just before the turn of the year, hip-hop sensation Erik Lundin released his second EP Välkommen hem, which cemented his position as Sweden's most relevant rapper. Now he is out on a major spring tour!

Like snow, white bird by Lamija Suljevic.

3. John Legend, darkness and LIghT.

The exhibition NATURA DENTATA runs 17 March–18 June at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, Stockholm.

Even if his neo-soul has been overtaken by Frank Ocean, Sampha, and James Blake, it is impossible not to welcome John Legend's beautiful Darkness and light – an album with a bit of both politics and ease, passion and darkness, so that it is not as safe as before. 4. khaLId, saVed.

FASHION

Come in a kimono

The kimono was the Japanese woman's only fashion garment for several hundred years – and we never tire of the beautiful statement piece with sweeping sleeves. There are many ways to wear the kimono; as a coat, dress, or tunic, with or without a belt, it can be matched and reinvented anew.

18-year-old Texas resident Khalid is preparing for a bigger year this year and returns with the magical single Saved, the first track on his debut album releasing on 3 March. An R&B star is predicted. 5. soLange a seaT aT The TabLe.

Not a brand-new record, but it has been on repeat throughout the Christmas break and I continue to play it non-stop this spring – because of the perfect spring soundtrack. To those of you who haven't heard it yet, do it!
