Alexander Lervik and Evelina Kroon develop retrofuturistic DesignWalls for Aritco

The Swedish designers created this subtle and innovative design in a limited set of fifty pieces.

Swedish elevator manufacturer Aritco, in collaboration with Swedish product designer Alexander Lervik and graphic artist Evelina Kroon, recently launched a new limited series DesignWall called Geometric, designed specially for their customisable Aritco Home Lift. With designs that combine efficiency and aesthetics, the Swedish company provides lifts for homes, schools, offices, and commercial buildings. Conceptualised along similar lines, Geometric serves as a beautiful addition to the brand’s unique series of innovatively fabricated DesignWalls.

The concept of Aritco’s home lift was originally developed by Lervik in 2016. Using the latest technology, he designed these home lifts to adapt to modern ways of living. “I am very proud of Geometric which is my favourite DesignWall to date. I even have it installed in the Aritco HomeLift in my own home in Stockholm,” says Lervik. This wall, created by the lift brand in collaboration with Lervik, and the cross-disciplinary creative Evelina Kroon, serves as an eclectic feature in an otherwise simple and utilitarian product.

Aritco, a company that thrives on innovation, is known for their affinity to Scandinavian design and commitment towards sustainability. Having previously created nine DesignWalls that ascribed to this minimalistic aesthetic, the company commissioned Lervik, who has worked with Aritco for almost ten years, to create newer designs for its most exclusive clients. Lervik, who enjoys working with creatives from different disciplines, approached Kroon to create the patterned print of Geometric that is soberly coloured, ejects a retro style and fits under the umbrella of Nordic design, as well.

Kroon, a creative who dislikes empty spaces and uses her creative intelligence and energy to straddle the fields of female crafts, painting, colouring and set design, while constantly exploring and pushing the boundaries between fine arts and decorative arts, has a distinctive aesthetic that are evocative of wallpapers and prints from the 1960s and 70s. She began the process of designing Geometric with a wood fibreboard, which she layered with tape and other materials in order to create patterns. After several iterations created by shifting the lines and circles on the wall to make new compositions, one design was finalised and sent to Stockholm Print, a specialist production company that manufactured the glass wall. “I was inspired by the scale of this design as it’s one of the biggest patterns I’ve worked on so far,” says Kroon. “It was a fantastic experience to collaborate with Alexander. We wanted to make a clean, timeless and graphic pattern, focusing on shapes and materials rather than colours,” adds Kroon, describing her collaborative experience with Lervik.
