Pignus Vase
People of Lervik’s generation who grew up in Stockholm with culturally interested parents tend t ohave one memory in common: that of Robert Rauschenberg’s Monogram, the taxidermygoat with a car tire around its belly, prominently displayed at Moderna Museet since the early years. In Pignus, the tire has a more bizarre, almost Dadaist effect. What came first, the glass or the tire? The car part is not promoting some neo-Dadaist designagenda, however — for Lervik, it symbolizes the inability of politicians to make uncomfortable decisions.

Pignus Vase is a design by the Swedish designer Alexander Lervik, dated 2019. The work was developed and realised by Lervik’s own studio.
Alexander Lervik is a Swedish designer whose work spans furniture, lighting, product design and collectible design. His practice combines function, storytelling, technology and conceptual experimentation, moving between industrial production, limited-edition objects and design art. He trained at Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm and runs his studio in Österlen in the south of Sweden.
The project belongs to a body of work that is represented in museum collections including Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, Nasjonalmuseet in Oslo and the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg, and that has been covered by international design and news media.
